Industrial web design means designing websites for industrial companies: manufacturers, industrial distributors, machine builders and industrial service firms. It is not the concrete-and-steel visual style the same phrase sometimes describes. An industrial website is judged on whether a buyer can find capability, availability and specification data fast enough to raise an RFQ (request for quote).

The buyer is often the same person across all four, which is why the vocabulary should stay consistent even though the page structures differ.
Industrial manufacturing website design
Industrial manufacturing website design is the overlap: a company that manufactures industrial equipment or components, selling to other industrial buyers rather than to consumers or to a retail channel. The site has to satisfy two readers at once, an engineer specifying the part and a procurement function qualifying the supplier, and those two want different things from the same page.
The engineer wants the number. The procurement reader wants evidence that the number is repeatable: the certification, the inspection capability, the process control behind it. A page that serves only the first reads as a spec sheet, and a page that serves only the second reads as a brochure.
How an industrial distributor's website differs from a manufacturer's
Distributors are the type most often given a manufacturer's site structure, and it fails them in a specific way: a distributor competes on finding and availability, not on capability.

What industrial buyers check before they contact anyone
Industrial buyers qualify before they identify themselves. By the time a form is submitted the shortlist is usually already made, which means the site has to survive an anonymous evaluation with no salesperson present.
In practice the checks are consistent: does this supplier do the process, in the material, at the size, to the tolerance, with the certification, in a lead time that fits. A site that answers all six without a login is on the shortlist. A site that answers three of six and asks for a phone call is not.

Does industrial web design mean the concrete and steel visual style?
Not here. The phrase is used two ways: a sector, and a visual aesthetic built from raw concrete, exposed metal and heavy type. This page and this service cover the sector. Visual direction on an industrial site follows the buyer, not a texture trend.
Our products are sold through distributors. Does the website still matter?
It matters more, because the end user specifies before the distributor quotes. If your specification data is not findable, the engineer specifies a competitor and the distributor sells that instead. The site has to serve the specifier and the channel at once.
How much product data do we need before starting?
Enough to structure, not everything finished. A representative sample across product families is enough to design the catalog architecture. Full data can be loaded during build, though incomplete or inconsistent attributes are the most common cause of a slipped launch date.
